Padrão dos Descobrimentos fashion show

The Escola de Moda Lisboa’s 2010 show at the Monument to the Discoveries, held on June 17, was a memorable event that celebrated the link between fashion and Portugal’s history. The Padrão is a unique monument, built with the aim of paying homage to Portuguese navigators and explorers, thus providing a stunning and inspiring backdrop.

The parade was staged at the Rosa dos Ventos in an open-air setting, overlooking the River Tagus, creating an immersive atmosphere that allowed us to appreciate the beauty of the Monument to the Discoveries.

Made of black and red lioz limestone, it is 50m in diameter and contains a 14m wide planisphere, decorated with plant elements, 5 small wind roses, 3 buffoons, a mermaid, a fantastic fish and Neptune with a trident and trumpet mounted on a sea creature. Dates, ships and caravels mark the main routes of Portuguese expansion between the 15th and 16th centuries. The surrounding background is made up of “wide sea” waves, an emblematic motif of the Portuguese sidewalk. This magnificent space highlighted the students’ creations.
